Breast lift surgery, termed "mastopexy", consists of a group of techniques designed to lift sagging or drooping breasts. The objective is to lift and reshape the sagging breast to bring back a more youthful appearance. A breast lift can be performed with or without the insertion of breast implants depending upon the anatomical factors and desired results of the patient.
How do I know if I'm a candidate for a Breast Lift?
During your consultation we will take measurements of your breasts as you are in the upright (seated or standing) position. The measurement from the center of the nipple to the sterna notch (the notch at the bottom of your neck). A typical youthful breast has an average measurement of about 8".
You can measure this on yourself. If you discover that the distance is greater than 8", try moving your nipple in to this position with your opposite hand. This will give you a good representation of the final position after a breast lift has been performed.
Implants with a Breast Lift
Many women choose to have a breast implant procedure along with a breast lift. At the time of your consultation we will go over this option with you and help you determine which option is best for you.
Our Preferred Breast Lift Version - Crescent Mastopexy
This procedure is mostly done with patients that have minor sagging. It involves removing a small crescent of breast skin and breast tissue directly above the areola. This procedure is usually complimented with a breast implant to add volume and shape.
Recovery after a Breast Lift
After surgery you will be wrapped with gauze. We also recommend patients purchase a Surgical Bra to help recovery. Bruising, swelling, pain and discomfort are not uncommon, but you will be given medication to lessen the effects. You may lose some sensation in the nipple and breast tissue, but over time as the nerves regenerate this will subside. Heavy lifting, excessive physical exertion, raising or lifting your arms above your head is not recommended for at least one week. You should also plan on not returning to work for the same amount of time.
